As the new school year begins, students eagerly anticipate fresh experiences, new environments, and the chance to make new friends. Ranked as the #1 soccer player in the Nation for the Fall 2024 recruiting class by Prep Soccer, Jackson Delkus is starting an exciting journey as part of the prestigious Division 1 St. Louis University’s Men’s soccer team.
With many years of soccer experience, formerly playing for St. Louis Scott Gallagher’s Academy and then transitioning to St. Louis City’s Academy and their 2nd team, St. Louis City2, Delkus is no stranger to the pressures of being an athlete.
When asked about his decision to join the St. Louis University Men’s Soccer program, The St. Louis University Men’s Soccer program has a record of holding 10 NCAA National Championships under its belt, making it the most successful program in the country.
Jackson Delkus: Honed by Experience
Delkus’ recruitment by one of the most prestigious D1 soccer teams displays his exceptional skills and dedication—qualities that have made him a sought-after player. His commitment to training and self-improvement has enabled him to maximize his strengths and work on his weaknesses.
Playing primarily in a forward position as either left-wing, right-wing, or striker, his primary objectives are to assist and score goals. Delkus definitely delivers on both of those and has the personality to win fans over. However, through the years, he has also developed good defensive and offensive skills, anticipating opponents’ movements, tracking back to support the defense, and disrupting plays.
Although naturally right-footed, the 6-foot player is equally adept with his left foot, with most of his goals scored using it. His high-level field awareness, speed, and agility allow him to vary his attacks effectively.
Saint Louis head men’s soccer coach Kevin Kalish says, “Delkus is a powerful attacker with incredible speed and a high work rate who can make plays in the attacking half of the field. I have watched him for most of his youth career, and he is an intense competitor who thrives under the spotlight.”
As a result, Delkus holds the freshman record for sprints at Chaminade College Preparatory School and the speed record of 23.4 mph at Legion of Strength, a training facility in the greater St. Louis area frequented by pro and amateur athletes. His speed rivals that of top professional athletes around the world.
Delkus was also the top scorer for his club during the fall 2021 season while playing for the St. Louis City SC Academy U16 team. He played in various offensive positions, including striker, right-wing, and left-wing.
From making a pro debut with the St. Louis City 2 game in Vancouver last June 2024, Delkus’ impressive portfolio, versatility, and eagerness to learn will be beneficial as he plays in the upcoming 2024 NCAA Division 1 Season.
The Player with the Headband
Aside from his impressive soccer skills, Delkus has also become known for his signature terrycloth headband, which he wears during matches. This simple accessory has become part of his trademark, making him easily recognizable on the pitch.
The headband symbolizes his unique style and explosive presence on the field. MLS NEXT tweeted, “When the headband is on, please refer by his full name – Mr. Jackson Delkus.”
With his exceptional skills, talent, memorable goals, and signature headband, Delkus became a crowd favorite. In an article, St. Louis mentions, “Already there are plenty of players to follow. Jackson Delkus is already on the radar of hardcore CITY fans.”
The Work Ahead
As Jackson Delkus prepares for his journey with St. Louis University, he is filled with excitement and anticipation for the years ahead. The young forward is eager to contribute his skills to the team and establish himself as one of its valuable assets.
